Inspiration
John has preached a simple message: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Now, the King of the kingdom has come to John and requested that he be baptized. In spite of John's resistance, Jesus insisted. Through baptism, He would be identified with that sacrificial role and symbolized His impending death and resurrection. As a result of baptism, Jesus and John are able to fulfill all righteousness by publicly foreshadowing the way sin can be forgiven.
Not only was the Lord Jesus the eternal Son of God, but He was also the sinless Son of Man. By becoming flesh, the Word became identified with your sin and mine, taking upon Himself the penalty that we deserve as a result of our sin. In order for us to be identified with His perfect righteousness, He identified with our gross unrighteousness.
By becoming our sin-sacrifice, scapegoat, and crucified Savior, He allows us to be forgiven of all our sins and to be raised to new life with Him. For you and me, all righteousness was finally and fully satisfied at the Cross.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for fulfilling all righteousness for me through the Lord Jesus so that I am free from sin, slavery to Satan, and death. In Christ, all the waves of God's wrath were poured out to fulfill the righteousness of my life. Thank You for sending Jesus as my holy high priest, who is always interceding on my behalf. Thank You for identifying with my sin so that I could be identified with Your righteousness.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
