Have you ever saved money for a long time in order to buy something you really wanted? How did you treat it once you finally got it? Chances are you looked after it really well. Why is that? When you invest your own money into something, your heart is invested in it as well. You've worked hard and saved for that. It wasn’t easy to get the money and to use discipline to put off buying other things to wait and get what you really wanted. When God talks about money and possessions in Matthew 6, He knows exactly how our minds and hearts work. If we focus on our treasures here on earth, our hearts will never be with Him in heaven. The things we own on earth don't matter to God. What matters to Him is that we live a holy life for Christ's sake and serve Him by serving the body of Christ. That is how we store up treasures in heaven - by serving God wholeheartedly. Treat your relationship with God like a treasure. If you do, your heart will be there too. Spend time and money developing your relationship with God. It will reward you for a lifetime.
Dear Heavenly Father, no matter how busy I am, help me to prioritize my walk with You first. Everything I have is a gift from You. I didn't earn them, but You gave them to me anyway because of Your loving kindness. Thank You for Your unconditional love. Please forgive me if I hold onto money as though it were mine. Help me to be generous with my time and money and use them to serve others. May my heart be with you wherever you are. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
