James begins this verse by instructing Christians to act without partiality or favoritism. In his teachings, he emphasized that the poor should rejoice in their future rewards, while the rich should not rely on their possessions for their happiness. This led to a discussion of how Christians should obey the Word of God rather than simply hear it. When you trust God to provide all of your needs for you, why do you show favoritism toward anyone? As Christians, we are not simply to believe in a statement of faith with our intellectual mind but to live our personal, trusting faith in Christ in everything we do on a daily basis. Living a life that reflects the life of Jesus Christ is what we are called to do. Throughout His sojourn here on earth, He maintained an unbroken relationship with His heavenly Father in the power of the Holy Spirit. Like Christ, we, too, are called to walk in spirit and truth and to live our lives in total submission to the indwelling Holy Spirit. We, too, should become servants to all without fear or favor, without prejudice or discrimination, as our heavenly Lord did.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me faith in Jesus Christ through Your Word and Your Spirit working in my life. Please help me to behave in such a way that no one would ever believe that I am favoring the rich over the poor. Please help me avoid thinking evil thoughts that might lead me to judge others by their outward appearances. In the power of the Holy Spirit, I pray that Jesus may be seen in me. I will do everything to honor and glorify You. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
Mark 5:19
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Romans 8:31
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Luke 7:50
Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
